DENDRITICITY

This ‘Dendritic City’ pictures a momentary state of an evolving network.
The network was established by kinetic agents that react within their
territory, connecting to others at points of least resistance. This open
system enables interaction between internal elements and environment
(the boundary shields). This interaction is a self-calibrating process.

CHARDACH: A New Urban Center in Istanbul

Studio: Wolf D. Prix University of Applied Arts Vienna
Students: Rupert ZALLMANN, Vojislav DZUKIC, Stefanie THEURETZBACHER

Project Title: CHARDACH (summer semester 2008 – work in progress)
Project Task: New Urban Center in Istanbul. Shopping/Housing/Office/Public Space

Project description:
High density shopping where goods and services are provided within an organism which grows though and around its surrounding, composed of living, office and hotel clusters.
Program clusters are subdivided into modular units, which are put together from a pallet of structural and spatial elements, such as partitions, floor slabs and facade elements. The driving parameters which define the formal and functional properties of these modules are: the force exerted onto them by the soft body (which deforms the initial Cartesian grid), sun-illumination, program and the facade framing.
